I haven't played D&D since first edition (and my memory is hazy at best), so lets say I've got 2 1st level spell slots, a 2nd level spell, and 3 prepared spells. This means I could cast the same level 1 spell 6 times, provided I prepared ahead of time for 3 of the castings.
